Recently, CNN and other foreign media reported that the number of Starbucks stores that can be seen everywhere in New York, Los Angeles and other major American cities is gradually decreasing, and the era of expansion for coffee giants may officially come to an end.
It is reported that CEO Nicole, who joined Starbucks last year, said that she no longer wants Starbucks stores in the city to be close to each other. So starting this year, the company began to adjust its market layout. In September this year, Starbucks first made it clear that it would completely eliminate self-delivery stores, affecting nearly 90 stores in more than 20 states across the United States. Subsequently, the company reviewed more than 18000 stores in North America and successively closed a number of offline stores that "performed poorly or failed to meet brand standards."
Reported that as part of its $1 billion restructuring plan, Starbucks has closed about 400 stores across the United States, mainly concentrated in metropolitan areas. Among them, New York closed 42; Los Angeles closed more than 20; Chicago closed 15; San Francisco closed 7; Minneapolis closed 6; Baltimore closed 5; and dozens of other cities closed.
Data provided by the Urban Future Center, a think tank in New York City that tracks the opening and closing of chain brand stores, shows that the 42 New York stores closed by Starbucks accounted for 12% of the city's total stores. The successive closures of coffee shops have caused Starbucks to lose the crown of the largest coffee chain in Manhattan.
Starbucks did not deny the media reports that a large number of stores were closed, saying that due to intensified market competition, coupled with factors such as the popularization of distance work, population loss in large cities, and rising operating costs of stores, the company is adjusting its market layout strategy. Close stores on the first floor of many downtown office buildings and shift the focus of operations to suburbs.
At the same time, a Starbucks spokesperson said it plans to renovate 1000 stores in the next year. Sofas, tables, chairs and power outlets will be added to the store to enhance the space experience, so as to retain customers who are willing to enter the store to enjoy coffee.
Interestingly, the New York Post reported exclusively that Starbucks will further close stores early next year. Real estate sources familiar with Starbucks 'plans revealed that five Starbucks stores in downtown New York will close because the stores have not renewed their leases.
In addition, several real estate agents who have worked with Luckin Coffee revealed that Luckin opened 9 stores in New York City in just seven months, and the brand is currently seeking to expand its New York business. They said Luckin has been very active in selecting locations and has inspected a number of stores, including some of the smaller takeout stores that Starbucks recently closed and evacuated.
This news inevitably makes the outside world wonder whether coffee shops that once wore green mermaid logos will hang blue deer heads high in the near future and become beautiful scenery in major American cities. However, Lucky has not yet responded to the exclusive report of the New York Times.
