Coffee healthy women who drink coffee regularly can reduce the risk of stroke
Women who drink coffee regularly can reduce their risk of stroke, according to the American journal Circulation. Researchers from Harvard Medical School in the United States and the Autonomous University of Madrid in Spain followed more than 83000 adult women who had no history of stroke or cancer from 1980 to 2004. About 2300 of them had strokes over the past 24 years.
Through the analysis, the risk of stroke in women is related to drinking coffee, and coffee has different effects on different people. For women who have never smoked or have smoked but have since quit, drinking more than four cups of coffee a day can reduce their risk of stroke by 43%. But for women who smoke, although they drink the same amount of coffee every day, the risk of stroke is reduced by only 3%, suggesting that smoking greatly counteracts the stroke prevention effect of drinking coffee. They also found that how much coffee they drank each day also had an effect on the risk of stroke. Women who drank about three cups of coffee a day had a 19% lower risk of stroke than those who drank less than one cup of coffee a month.
