The benefits of drinking boutique coffee give you a good memory
Dr. Rich's research published in the American Journal of Neurology shows that drinking more than three cups of coffee or tea a day can help older women retain their memories.
The new study was carried out by Dr Ricci et al. of France's National Centre for Health and Medical Research. They asked about 7000 elderly men and women aged 74 on average in Bordeaux, Dijon and Montpellier how many cups of coffee and tea they drank daily. Participants took multiple mental skills tests, including a series of word memory tests, repeated at years 2 and 4.
The results showed that older women who drank more than three cups of coffee or tea a day had fewer test scores than older women who drank one cup of coffee or tea a day; the biggest benefit was seen in women's verbal memory; coffee did not seem to affect women's risk of dementia, probably because the study was too short to show such a benefit.
Dr. Rich et al. also noted that coffee had no effect on men's multi-year mental skills test scores. They believe coffee helps women remember, possibly because women are more sensitive to caffeine.
