As one of the three major drinks in the world, coffee is also the second largest trade export besides oil. More than 50 countries around the world grow and process more than 3000 kinds of coffee beans, with an annual global consumption of 7 million tons. With the improvement of people's living standards and the deepening of exchanges with western countries, the domestic coffee industry has developed rapidly, and the number of coffee professional places in many large and medium-sized cities in China is growing at an annual rate of about 20%. This has created a huge space for professional baristas to develop.

In April 2006, baristas became the sixth batch of new occupations after being evaluated by the national authority. Professional baristas are engaged in the basic identification of coffee beans, blending different flavors of coffee according to the characteristics of coffee beans, making coffee using coffee equipment and coffee utensils, providing coffee services to customers and spreading coffee culture.

As the disseminator of coffee culture and the shaper of fashion taste, professional baristas are still scarce in China compared with foreign countries, and the gap of professional baristas is as high as 30,000 people every year.
