It may be difficult to increase coffee production in Jamaica.
Abstract: Japan's economy is in a quagmire, unable to import so much coffee, so that Jamaica has to implement a diversification strategy to export surplus coffee. At this time, Hurricane Sandy brought berry borer and leaf rust, and production dropped from 600000 barrels 15 years ago to 240000 barrels today.

Grant, manager of the Blue Mountain Mavisban Coffee Factory, said that due to poor control of berry borer and leaf rust, the global coffee market demand is still weak, and the Jamaican coffee industry will lose US $10 million in the 2013-2014 crop year.
Grant said Jamaica will harvest 240000 barrels of coffee in the 2013-2014 crop year, the same as last year. At current prices, the total output value of the Jamaican coffee industry this year is about 30 million US dollars. At present, the price of the global coffee market is improving, and the market demand for blue mountain coffee and non-blue mountain coffee is rising, but Jamaican coffee is difficult to reap huge profits from the improved market, mainly because of the large number of farmers abandoning it. it is difficult to increase coffee production in the short term.
Mr Grant explained that Jamaica had promised to sell 90 per cent of its coffee to Japan. Affected by the global recession in 2008, Japan's economy was bogged down and unable to import so much coffee that Jamaica had to implement a diversification strategy to export excess coffee. At this time, Hurricane Sandy brought berry borer and leaf rust, forcing many farmers to abandon the wasteland, with production falling from 600000 barrels 15 years ago to 240000 barrels today. Although the government has provided financial support for the prevention and control of leaf rust, the disease shows signs of recurrence.
