The world is so big that I want to spend a cup of coffee with strangers.
Are you willing to be alone with a stranger?
Table for two (a table for two) is a small restaurant on Seventh Avenue in New York specially designed for strangers. One table, two chairs, one inside the wall and one outside the wall. Anyone has a chance to invite a stranger to spend time with a cup of coffee and a cup of wine.
French Parisian artist Shani Ha designed an unusual table for a bistro on New York's Seventh Avenue and named it "table for two" (a table for two).
The table is split in two by transparent glass, some in the pub and some directly exposed in the street.
Coffee cups and candles are placed on the table on one side of the street, attracting passers-by to sit down and run into people on the other side of the table.
People in the house invite passers-by to sit down by smiling, gesturing and even drawing on the windows.
This kind of thing is quite probabilistic. When you sit down, you can't communicate with each other in words, and your eyes seem to be the only way.
People on the street need the courage to choose to sit down, face a complete stranger, and spend time with what may be a cup of coffee.
They are close to each other and highly independent, and they are likely to gain a friendship or even love as a result. Or you may get nothing, but satisfy your curiosity. But I don't even have the courage to sit down, and I'm destined to get nothing.
If no one is invited, it is also a very high index thing to drink a cup of loneliness in front of your own reflection on the glass and pass the afternoon.
Shani Ha's idea comes from itself. Because he is in the United States, and his relatives are all in France, he can only communicate and interact with them through computers. The transparent glass of the pub is like a computer screen, blocking people on both sides, but also connecting people on both sides.
Shani Ha found that although she was far away from her relatives through the computer, she was still very close to her heart. On the contrary, she was the people around her, who were closer but more distant.
Through table for two, he wants to encourage more people close at hand to interact more, make connections, and have a good time together!
