Coke and orange juice "corrode" teeth, but coffee has little effect.
What kind of drink would you choose when you are thirsty? Drink a bottle of Coke and orange juice beautifully. It tastes really good. However, many online posts say that teeth may be "corroded" by drinking drinks such as cola and orange juice for a long time. Which kind of drink is more harmful to teeth? In this issue, Life Lab chose five kinds of drinks: Coke, orange juice, coffee, tea and water to confirm which drinks are harmful to teeth.
Experimental time: March 30 to April 8
Experimental site: Hao Tooth Dental Clinic on Sifu Street
Experimenter: Haodont Dental Clinic physician and our reporter
Experimental tools: 5 isolated teeth; 1 small bottle of Coke, orange juice, coffee, tea and water each
I. Experimental preparation
On the morning of March 30, five isolated teeth were selected, cleaned and dried. After that, put the isolated teeth in five small bottles containing different drinks. After 10 days, the changes of teeth were observed.
Second, the experimental results
On the morning of April 8, the experimenters took out five isolated teeth from five small bottles and observed the changes of the teeth.
1. Coke: the teeth soaked by Coke are brownish black. With a tool chisel off the surface of the tooth, you can scrape off a layer of brown caramel. If you continue to chisel with tools, serious demineralization will occur on the tooth surface (demineralization, also known as decalcification, which refers to the loss of calcium and phosphorus on the enamel surface of human teeth. To make matters worse, the enamel falls off and there are obvious shallow depressions or grooves on the teeth.
two。 Orange juice: the color of the isolated teeth does not change obviously, and the surface is yellowish. When the tooth surface is chiseled with a tool, the enamel on the tooth surface is demineralized seriously, and the phenomenon of "dregs" will occur.
3. Coffee: the surface of the isolated tooth is brown, mainly the change of coloring, with a tool chisel, there is no obvious change in the structure of the tooth.
4. Tea: from the perspective of color, the blackening of the teeth soaked in tea is the most serious, and the color changes are mainly concentrated in the root and crown of the teeth.
5. Shimizu: there is no change in teeth.
Third, experimental analysis:
Li Wenli, director of the Haodont Dental Clinic, helped analyze the effects of five drinks on dental health.
She said that Coke is a carbonated drink, long-term consumption, will make the calcium structure of teeth become not tight, prone to enamel demineralization, and even cause tooth loss
Orange juice is too acidic, it will cause tooth soreness, cold and heat sensitivity, long-term drinking will corrode the tooth surface and cause demineralization
Coffee has little effect, mainly pigmentation, but it should also be consumed in moderation, preferably sugar-free coffee
The coloring of tea is the most serious, and the main substance is tea dirt, which does little damage to teeth. Because there is fluoride in tea, drinking tea in moderation can prevent dental caries. But drinking too much tea for a long time can cause dental fluorosis.
Clear water will not cause harm to teeth, whether adults or children, should drink more boiled water.
Li Wenli said that from the experimental results, the effects of the five drinks on dental health were in the following order: Coke, orange juice, coffee, tea and water.

Don't brush your teeth immediately after drinking carbonated drinks.
Li Wenli reminded everyone that it is wrong to brush your teeth immediately after drinking carbonated drinks such as cola. Because the surface of the teeth is corroded by the acid of carbonated drinks, brushing the teeth immediately will cause damage to the enamel. The correct way is to gargle immediately after drinking carbonated drinks and brush your teeth when there is no acid residue on the surface of your teeth.
