American scientists say drinking coffee may not cause high blood pressure

Reuters reported on the 22nd that US researchers had previously conducted six studies, involving a total of about 170000 people. For up to 33 years, the researchers recorded how much coffee these people drank every day. About 1/5 of the subjects eventually developed high blood pressure. However, compared with people who drank less than one cup of coffee a day, people who drank more than five cups of coffee a day had "no difference" in their risk of developing high blood pressure.
"the results showed that compared with drinking less than one cup of coffee a day, the habit of drinking more than three cups of coffee a day was not associated with an increased risk of high blood pressure," said Chen Liwei, a researcher at Louisiana State University's School of Public Health. "
However, Chen Liwei said more data is needed before a conclusion can be reached. According to him, the results of the study do not mean that drinking large amounts of coffee is "not dangerous".
But the results also showed that people who drank one to three cups of coffee a day were more likely to develop high blood pressure than those who drank less coffee. Researchers have not been able to explain this phenomenon.
