According to the website of Health Day on August 8, a new study shows that drinking coffee is good for ear health. Researchers at Bregan Women's Hospital in the United States have found that women who drink coffee regularly are less likely to suffer from tinnitus.

The researchers followed more than 65000 American women between the ages of 30 and 44 who had no symptoms of tinnitus in 1991 and followed them for 18 years. A total of nearly 5300 women reported tinnitus during this period. The analysis, published in the American Medical Journal, found that women who drank less than 150 milligrams (about one cup of coffee) of caffeine a day were 15 percent more likely to develop tinnitus than those who drank 450-599 milligrams (3-4 cups of coffee) a day. The researchers speculate that caffeine stimulates the central nervous system and thus has a positive effect on the health of the inner ear.
