Caffeine helps protect the intelligence of older women and control the course of Alzheimer's disease in women, according to a new study by French and Portuguese scientists.

In the past four years, they have conducted a follow-up survey of 7017 French people over the age of 65, including 4197 women and 2820 men.

The results show that elderly women who drink at least three cups of coffee or six cups of tea a day have significantly better memory, language expression and logical thinking than women who drink only a small amount of coffee or tea every day, or even no coffee or tea at all. But caffeine seems to have no effect on the cognitive ability of older men.

In the course of the study, they fully considered the effects of age, education, blood pressure, heart disease, mental status and living ability on cognitive ability. The study also found that consuming large amounts of caffeine does not prevent Alzheimer's disease in older women, but it can slow the progression of the disease.
