What is a filter cup? Introduction to the tools for making coffee by hand
The main difference of filter cup lies in the filter hole at the bottom of the cup. At present, there are mainly four kinds of filter cup: single-hole, double-hole, three-hole filter cup and V-shaped filter cup.
The single-hole filter cup was invented by Mrs. Melitta in Germany, commonly known as "Melita Cup". The single-hole filter cup is mainly used for medium-deep roasted coffee such as German roasting, while the shallow roasted coffee is easier to plug the filter hole.
The three-hole filter cup is not easy to be blocked because of its many filter pores, so it is suitable for coffee with various roasting degrees, and the concentration can be adjusted as long as the extraction amount is adjusted. The three-hole filter cup is called the Kalita Cup.
The effect of double-hole filter cup is between single-hole and three-hole.
The bottom of the V-shaped filter cup is a big hole, and the filter paper used is also a special conical filter paper, which will no longer cause the filter hole to be blocked. However, due to the fast flow rate, it is easy to cause insufficient extraction, and the requirement of "stuffy steaming" is higher. The role of coffee filter cup grooves: the main function of the grooves in the filter cup is to make a gap between the filter paper and the filter cup to let the air pass through, so that the coffee powder can be fully steamed. If there is no groove, or if the filter paper is close to the filter cup with extremely shallow grooves, the air can only be discharged through the filter hole at the bottom of the cup after hot water is injected. As a result, a large amount of air that cannot be discharged will flush out from the surface of the steaming coffee powder like a volcanic eruption. There is a hole in the surface of the powder, and cold air enters, resulting in insufficient steaming.
