How did Kopi Luwak come from? Does Kopi Luwak taste good?
Many people are surprised to hear about the Kopi Luwak Initiative for the first time. Why is cat poop associated with coffee? Kopi Luwak, to be exact, should be called civet coffee, which is extracted and processed from civet poop. Although it seems to be very tasteful, it has countless fans around the world, and the price is high.
The Origin of Kopi Luwak
Kopi Luwak, also known as civet coffee, is the most expensive coffee in the world. How did Kopi Luwak come from? In Indonesia, there is an animal called the civet, which likes to eat fat and pulpy coffee fruit, but it is difficult to digest after eating, and the coffee beans are pulled out by the original grains.
Local farmers carefully collect civets' poop, and then go through many processes, such as selection, drying, deodorization, processing and baking, to produce Kopi Luwak. Because of the scarcity, the price is quite high, and a 4-ounce Kopi Luwak can sell for $168 (about 1034 yuan).
In order to get the precious coffee beans, local farmers in Indonesia will catch the civets in cages and feed them themselves. There are also some coffee merchants who simply contract an island to raise civets and let them eat and pull themselves, without forcing them to eat and poop, so the coffee beans they end up with are more valuable.
Does Kopi Luwak taste good?
Indonesian coffee has the taste of earth and traditional Chinese medicine, and its consistency is also very high. But Kopi Luwak tastes more earthy and has a consistency similar to that of syrup. It has a special fragrance, and after drinking it, there will be a touch of mint coolness in the mouth, which is not found in ordinary coffee. After drinking, take a deep breath or contain a mouthful of cold water, just like eating a peppermint, there is a cool feeling from mouth to throat.
Kopi Luwak will emit a flavor similar to honey and chocolate after brewing. It also has a sweet and silky taste without adding sugar and cream. It is not bitter, sour or astringent, and does not scrape your stomach after entering the throat. Even if the coffee is cold, it still tastes sweet.
