Creative: Buy coffee with a watch Pay completely online with a smart watch
Both products, from parking apps to pay-uppers, are finding ways to make it easier for users to hand over the money in their pockets. Paypal, the mobile payment predecessor, has gone a step further by developing a new technology that enables payments to be made entirely online via a smartwatch.
PayPal is already testing the technology in San Jose, partnering with Starbucks and Samsung. Now you can make online payments just through Samsung's smart wearable devices, without the need for bank cards and smartphones.
Wear a Galaxy Gear 2 watch or Gear Fit wristband with the PayPal app installed, and when you approach a PayPal base station, the watch and wristband on your wrist will receive notifications from the base station. After placing the order, the watch and wristband will again receive a PayPal push notification requesting confirmation of payment.
PayPal hasn't announced when it will be available on other devices, but Kathy Chui, PayPal's communications director, told Mobile Pay Daily that PayPal hopes to get more people to use the technology and that mass adoption should happen soon.
