Wang Pinghua, deputy director of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Agriculture, said that since coffee was introduced into Yunnan more than 100 years ago, because it is located in the low-latitude plateau and has the natural climatic resources for producing world-class coffee, Yunnan coffee has the unique quality of "strong but not bitter, fragrant but not strong, slightly sour". Wang Pinghua said that through years of support, the coffee industry in Yunnan has developed rapidly. In 2014, the planting area of coffee in the province was 1.87 million mu, a three-fold increase from 640000 mu in 2010; the output was 118000 tons, more than two times that of 49000 tons in 2010, and the planting area and output accounted for more than 99% of the country's total.

"at present, coffee planting areas in the province are distributed in more than 40 counties (urban areas) in 10 prefectures and cities. The main producing areas are Baoshan, Dehong, Pu'er and Lincang in southern and southwestern Yunnan. The acreage and output of the four prefectures and cities account for more than 85% of the province's total." Wang Pinghua said.

At the same time, coffee is also an important agricultural product for earning foreign exchange. In 2014, Yunnan exported 48429 tons of coffee, earning US $145.91 million from exports, with a slight increase over the previous year, ranking third after vegetables and tobacco. Coffee industry has become a characteristic advantage industry to promote the development of agricultural and rural economy, increase farmers' income and prosperity and stability in the border areas of Yunnan.

With the rapid growth of coffee planting area and output, coffee enterprises are also growing at the same time. According to Wang Pinghua, the initial processing capacity of coffee in the province exceeds 150000 tons, and the intensive and deep processing capacity exceeds 20000 tons. Dehong Hougu Coffee Co., Ltd. has an annual production capacity of 13000 tons of instant coffee powder, which is the largest instant coffee powder manufacturer in the country. Yunnan Aiyi Group has established a joint venture with Starbucks, which marks another substantial step forward in the internationalization of Yunnan coffee.

According to reports, China is one of the countries with the fastest growth in coffee consumption in the world, and the market space is huge. The Yunnan Provincial Department of Agriculture has formulated a plan to enhance the influence of the "Yunka" brand, and will speed up the establishment of coffee standardization and ecological parks, promote the construction of modern coffee estates, and increase the identification of provincial coffee leading enterprises. to promote the quality, efficiency, transformation and upgrading of the coffee industry from many aspects.
