A cardiovascular expert at the School of Medicine of the University of Athens in Greece investigated the living habits of the residents of Ikaria. This is because most of the people on this island are healthier and live longer than the rest of Europe, and the incidence of cardiovascular disease is low, and foreign media even call it "an island that can make people forget to die". The researchers found that 87% of the nearly 700 people over the age of 65 on the island had the habit of drinking coffee every day, and they preferred to make coffee in boiling water, adding some lemon peel and orange peel at the same time, or eat similar fruit while drinking.

Research leader Dr. Geroni Mosiasso explained that boiling water can not only extract more nutrients from ground coffee beans, but also properly control the content of caffeine, while lemon peel and orange peel are rich in polyphenols and antioxidants, which protect the skin of blood vessels. The researchers further found that even people with high blood pressure who regularly drank this kind of coffee improved vascular skin function.
