The researchers analyzed the results of studies published between 2001 and 2015, focusing on the effects of caffeine on acute toxicity, bone, heart, brain and fertility. The Daily Mail quoted Eric Antege, the lead researcher, as saying on the 24th that the study provided more support for the previous determination of 400 mg as a safe limit for caffeine intake. The findings are published in the British Journal of Food and Chemical Toxicology.

According to guidelines issued by the European Food Safety Agency in 2015, caffeine intake is limited to 400 milligrams a day, and excess caffeine can lead to a series of health problems, including anxiety and heart disease. In addition to coffee, tea, functional drinks, chocolate and other foods also contain caffeine. Usually a cup of tea contains 50 milligrams of caffeine, 80 milligrams of red bull, 30 milligrams of cola, no more than 80 milligrams of dark chocolate, and about 40 milligrams of caffeine in a piece of white chocolate.
