Tim Hortons, the Canadian branded coffee chain, is accelerating its expansion outside the US. Following the opening of two stores in the Philippines last year, an agreement was announced in January with Mexican investors, while branches in the UK will open next month.

"We may not be able to capture most of the UK coffee shop market any time soon, but we are optimistic about it," said Daniel Schwartz, chief executive of Restaurant Brands International, Tim Horton's parent company. At present, 80% of the market for Tim Horton is still in Canada.

In order to attract more consumers, the coffee giant is also revising and enriching the menus of foreign stores. For example, in order to better adapt to the British taste, added a kind of espresso-based beverage Flat white, as well as bread and cream sandwiches. Schwartz believes that sweet balls like Timbits should be in line with British tastes and hobbies, and the preliminary experiment got a positive response.

Tim Horton's first branch in England was in Glasgow because it was a city with more students. Tim Horton plans to expand to the rest of the UK in the next 12 months, but London is not on the expansion list. Part of the reason is that there are already many coffee shops and the competition is too fierce.
