The third Yunnan Coffee Raw Bean Competition opened on the 9th in Pu'er City, Yunnan Province. 123 beans from five major coffee producing areas in Yunnan will be evaluated by judges from China, the United States, Malaysia, Australia and other countries.

The competition will be held at Yunnan International Coffee Trading Center from March 9 to March 15 to enhance the popularity of Yunnan coffee and promote the healthy development of the coffee industry. 123 raw coffee beans from Yunnan Pu'er, Xishuangbanna, Lincang, Wenshan, Baoshan and other producing areas participated in the competition after being processed in different ways, such as washing, honey treatment and sun exposure, reflecting the diversity of Yunnan coffee.

There are more than 100 domestic and foreign judges in this year's Yunnan Coffee Raw Bean Competition, with Ted Ringer, former president of the American Fine Coffee Association, founder of the Coffee quality Association and senior consultant of Yunnan International Coffee Trading Center, as the referee.

In the current situation of low commercial coffee prices in Yunnan, boutique coffee highlights its bargaining power and market docking power. In order to further promote the development of fine coffee, special cup testing meetings, descriptive cup testing courses, baking exchanges, brewing exchanges and other activities will be held during the competition.

Du Jianhui, vice mayor of Pu'er City, said that this competition provides opportunities for coffee people around the world to gather and exchange, build a platform to enhance the brand power of Yunnan coffee, and broaden sales channels for farmers and enterprises.

According to reports, Yunnan Pu'er is the main coffee producing area with the largest planting area and the highest output in China and an important coffee trading and distribution center. In 2017, Pu'er City has a coffee planting area of 789000 mu, with a coffee bean output of 58600 tons and a total output value of 2.469 billion yuan. At present, more than 80% of Pu'er coffee is exported to more than 30 countries and regions, including the United States, Germany, France and Saudi Arabia.
