The Rubagabaga Coffee washing Station was built in the early 1990s to collect cherries from miniature plantations in the mountains around the station. The COE competition eliminates any coffee that shows potato defects in the cup at any stage of the competition.

Emma Chevalier from Revelator Coffee of the United States said that although the coffee in Burundi is amazing, the possibility of potato defects still exists.
