Mugirampeke station

The Mugirampeke station was built in 1991 and is located in Ngozi province. In order to understand the history of Mugirampeke, we must go back to the German colonial period of Burundi. Its name comes from two misspelled words in German: "kugira" and "impeke", which can be translated into "sorghum" and "beer". By the time the Belgians arrived, Mugirampeke's people were already growing sorghum for beer consumption. The Belgians were shocked to find that the Germans had set up strongholds near them in order to get beer. The war for beer broke out! The balance between acidity and sweetness is the two main characteristics of Mugirampeke coffee. More than 1500 farmers came to the station with cherries. Bugestal is located in Ngozi province in the north of Burundi, about 150km from the capital Bujumbura. Bugestal operates nine washing stations (wet mills) in the provinces of Ngozi and Muyinga, working with more than 15000 farmers. Coffee washing stations all passed UTZ, 4C and C.A.F.E. It's certified. Bugestal is a member of the Sucafina Group Group. The Sukafina Group is a family-owned coffee company that promotes trade from farm to oven. Bugestal uses the farm direct supply chain to create social impact in the country of origin and works with the Kahawatu Foundation to help farmers improve their lives by increasing coffee production.
