Arabica coffee in Tanzania is grown on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in the north, in the shade of banana trees. It also grows in the southern Mbeya Heights and Ruvuma areas, where coffee and bananas are intercropped and some areas are purely standing. Arabica coffee accounts for 70% of the country's total output. Robusta coffee grows in the western part of Lake Victoria in the Kagera area. This accounts for 30% of Tanzania's total coffee production.
