The Sidamo Coffee Farmers' Cooperative Union (SCFCU) was established in 2001 to represent coffee producers' cooperatives in the Sidamo region of southern Ethiopia. Today, SCFCU has grown into a representative of 53 primary cooperatives and more than 80000 farmers (smallholders), making SCFCU the second largest federation of coffee producers in Ethiopia. Almost all coffee produced by our member cooperatives is grown at low density in the shade of local trees and staple food crops. SCFCU members have grown and processed Sidama coffee for more than 35 years and now export high-quality traceable coffee directly to overseas buyers. Since 2003, the Sidama Alliance has produced about 10,000 tons of high-quality organic Arabica coffee beans every year, 95% of which have been washed.
