HDT is a hybrid of Arabica and Robusta. It was first discovered in a typical variety plantation in Timor in 1917. It was first collected in East Timor in 1978 and planted in Aceh in 1979.

At present, this variety is widely planted all over the world, mainly because it has good resistance to leaf rust and is widely used as a gene source in different breeding programs in order to produce higher resistance to leaf rust and other diseases.
