Bourbon is the most famous bourbon descendant variety (see Bourbon History and typical a complete history of this group of coffee). The variety of this variety is high, the yield is relatively low, it is susceptible to main diseases and the cup body quality is good.

In the early 18th century, French missionaries introduced Bourbon from Yemen to the island of Bourbon (now Reunion) and gave the island its present name. It was not until the mid-19th century that bourbon left the island. But from the mid-19th century, as missionaries began to establish strongholds in Africa and America, these varieties began to spread around the world.

Bourbon varieties were introduced to Brazil around 1860 and quickly spread northward to other parts of South and Central America, where bourbon is still cultivated today. Here, it is mixed with other varieties related to the Bourbon dynasty, which were introduced from India and Ethiopia. Today, many varieties similar to bourbon have been found in East Africa, but none of them are exactly the same as those in Latin America.

Today, in Latin America, bourbon itself has been largely replaced by varieties from it (especially Keturah, Katuay and Mondonovo), although bourbon itself is still grown in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Peru.
