F1 varieties

Hybrid varieties are usually the offspring produced by the hybridization of two individuals with different genes. In this catalogue, "hybrid variety" refers to F1 hybrid varieties, a new group of varieties that cross with genetically distinct Arabica parents and use the first generation of offspring. These relatively new varieties are created to combine the best characteristics of parents, including high cup quality, high yield and disease resistance. F1 hybrid varieties are noteworthy because their yield is significantly higher than that of non-hybrid varieties.

An important hint about F1 hybrid varieties

The seeds extracted from F1 hybrid plants will not have the same characteristics as their parents. This is called "isolation" (see figure below). This means that the appearance or behavior of offspring plants is different from that of their parents, which may cause losses in yield, disease resistance, quality or other agronomic traits. This variety can only reproduce asexually. Therefore, it is important to let farmers know that F1 hybrid seedlings should be purchased from reliable nurseries.
