Over the years, Atlas has a close relationship with Huehuetenango's Asociacion de Cooperacion al Desarrollo Integral de Huehuetenango (better understood as ACODIHUE). Founded in 1996 and supported by the European Union and Guatemalan governments, ACODIHUE has slowly built up a reputation for membership and high-quality coffee. Felix Camposeco is a business manager who has worked at ACODIHUE for 17 years. He is an incredible force in the community, helping to promote women producers and their economic independence in the region. At present, ACODHIUE has 1055 members, of whom 821 women own 0. 04-1 hectares of land. In early 2000, ACODIHUE launched a women's coffee program, and when the project was over, they still wanted to work in the coffee industry. In 2012, the cooperative established a formal women's group and began to sell coffee produced by women under the name "Manos de Mujer". There are now 21 independent women's groups (each with 15-100 members) who are separated by the entire Huehuetenango region. All of their coffee is Fairtrade certified, and more than half of it is organic.
In addition to coffee, ACODIHUE members also produce honey, potatoes and hibiscus tea, and they sell "La Meseta" tea locally. ACODIHUE hopes to continue to provide services and technical assistance to producers to maintain product quality at a competitive level while developing social and economic projects that benefit farmers, their families and communities.
The goals of ACODIHUE are:
Provide support to farmers to meet the market requirements for yield and quality
Empower the association to become a powerful enterprise
Assist the market to develop new business
Financial support for the expansion of its membership
Lead and support agricultural and forest protection projects
Generally improve community access to services
