Last Updated: 2025/08/21, Since its opening in March 2004, A Mai study has devoted itself to creating a creative and cultural life. The bookstore on the second floor of Yan Ping Road, Causeway Bay, has become a focal point for people who love books and musicians, and even a pilgrimage place for literary and art youth in the mainland and Taiwan. At first, A Mai's study also made coffee and cheesecake at home, and all kinds of coffee and cheesecake were made in a small space of less than 400 feet.

A Mai's study originated

A Mai Study has been dedicated to creating creative and cultural life since its opening in March 2004. Located on the second floor of Yun Ping Road, Causeway Bay, the bookstore has become a gathering point for book lovers and music lovers, and even a pilgrimage place for literary youth from the Mainland and Taiwan.

The original McDonnell's study also had its own coffee and cheesecake, and a variety of activities in a small space of less than 400 feet, including unplugged concerts, film shows, symposiums, exhibitions, theater performances, etc.

Later, with the increasing number of books and music, it became increasingly clear that the small space could not allow the audience to drink coffee and participate in activities comfortably, so the coffee part was temporarily put aside and the activities were moved to a space outside the study. The AMAK Study Annex was opened in 2006 at the Hong Kong Arts Centre, adding more reading atmosphere to the diverse arts centre.

All the while, the shop assistants did not forget the aroma of coffee until we found this shop in Caroline Hill Road, and the aroma of coffee would waft again, on the road with stone brick walls and tree shadows.

About Mackie Kitchen

From the study of home brewing coffee, Mai study has been very focused on the quality of coffee. A good cup of coffee is like reading a poem. Although chain coffee shops are flooding the market and the so-called "coffee culture" seems to be spreading quietly in Hong Kong, how can a single taste bring out the essence of coffee?

Mackie Kitchen has specially found Coffee Assembly as a partner. No matter the coffee beans, brewing method and flavor are all excellent, it will definitely bring customers a warm coffee enjoyment. Coffee is not just a meal.

In addition to strong coffee, Mackie Kitchen also serves exquisite Mediterranean cuisine, especially vegetarian dishes, a wide variety of food, so that friends who love healthy eating can also find the right dishes here. Of course, delicious desserts are indispensable! Enjoy a thoughtful meal, recharge yourself and continue your busy life.

Exquisite kitchen built by book lovers

This was the first time that McDonnell had ventured into the catering industry, and the newly recruited cafeteria staff were all evolved from McDonnell's members! Before they became Mackie Kitchen employees, they were all members of Mackie's study. They would come to read books, listen to music, and pay attention to the study newsletter to see what interesting things were happening.

The opening of this restaurant has actually created their fate from pure customers to shop assistants. It was also a very interesting experience for them and the restaurant!

Select Taste Music

Music has always been a great match for coffee and food, and Mackie Kitchen has a selection of good music, from indie musicians to continental sketches, so guests can enjoy their meals in the most relaxed and comfortable state.

In addition to playing music in the store, Mackie Kitchen will also select CDs that are different from mainstream music to sell, and if there is a chance, it will even bring independent musicians to the audience, so that good music has an additional channel to reach the audience.

exchange platform

In keeping with the humanistic spirit of Mackey's study, Mackie Kitchen will also become an important platform for cultural information exchange in Hong Kong. Customers can find the latest art information on the blackboard in the corridor, and they can also get some interesting free publications. The most important thing is to let cultural and creative people from all walks of life have one more romantic place, or it may lead to some interesting cultural events.

organic activity space

Mackie Kitchen is always full of possibilities. There have been countless unexpected and interesting events in this small study. With Mackie Kitchen, there will definitely be more activities happening here! Small concerts, art exhibitions, symposiums... How organic is the future activity space? Let's feel it personally!

Mackie Kitchen

Mackie Kitchen is a new place built by Zhuang Guodong, a well-known creative cultural planner in Hong Kong cultural circle, to continue coffee culture. Apart from strong coffee, it also has exquisite and healthy meals, accompanied by carefully selected good music, and activities from time to time. It strives to create a third space for cultural and book lovers besides home and work.

In addition to providing strong coffee and exquisite healthy meals, we also organize various creative cultural activities from time to time, striving to create a leisure space for culture and book lovers. Embrace your beloved books, walk through the bustling streets, sit down at Mackie Kitchen's characteristic orange wall, sip a cup of specially recommended coffee, and spend a wonderful afternoon with books.
