It is a variety bred by the Institute of Agronomy of the State of Campinas Sao Paulo in Brazil, which is crossed between the high-yielding Mondonovo and the short Kaddura. Yellow Kaduai was introduced in Costa Rica in 1985 and has since been widely cultivated in the country. Introduced in Guatemala in 1970, about 20% of the country's current production is Kaduai, while production in other Central American countries is negligible. Kaduai's short plant shape, high planting density and high harvest efficiency partly led to full sunlight planting in the 1970s and 1980s.
