Qianjie-introduction of Kaduai varieties
Arabica coffee cup is generally believed to be originated from the Ethiopian plateau, widely distributed in the tropics, after repeated mutation and breeding, derived a lot of varieties. Now, it is said that there are more than 70 varieties of Arabica coffee. The market has paid more and more attention to high-quality coffee, that is, high-quality coffee. Coffee producers and consumers are eager to introduce new quality evaluation standards. And coffee that is highly rated and can be bought and sold at a high price.
It has excellent flavor quality but is extremely susceptible to coffee berry disease. It's common in Kenya.
It is a variety bred by the Institute of Agronomy of the State of Campinas Sao Paulo in Brazil, which is crossed between the high-yielding Mondonovo and the short Kaddura. The yield of this variety is higher than that of bourbon, and its small plant shape and high planting density (almost twice as high as bourbon) is one of the reasons for its high yield. Short plant shape is also conducive to the control of diseases and insect pests. Its main features are strong, short, and more compact than Kaduai. When extremely susceptible to leaf rust.
Kaduai's name comes from "gurani multomom" which means "very good". Today, although it is thought to be good, it does not have excellent flavor quality. It has two fruit types: red and yellow, and there are many varieties of its choice in different countries.
The variety originated from the hybrid between yellow Kaddura and Mondonovo in 1949 and was called Hmur2077 at that time. It is released after pedigree selection in Brazil (through the selection of a single plant for several generations) and is widely planted in Brazil. There are many sub-varieties of Kaduai in Brazil, some of which are famous for their high yield. However, the yield of sub-varieties spread to Central America is relatively low. Studies in Honduras and Costa Rica found no significant difference in production between Kaddura and Kaduai.
It was first introduced in Honduras in 1979 and tested at the Honduran Coffee Institute (IHCAFE). In 1983, two seed varieties were selected at the Honduran Coffee Institute and released commercially. Today, Kaduai accounts for almost half of the varieties of Arabica coffee in Honduras. IHCAFE is active in breeding Kaduai, including hybridizing Kaduai with Timor to produce hybrids.
Yellow Kaduai was introduced in Costa Rica in 1985 and has since been widely cultivated in the country. Introduced in Guatemala in 1970, about 20% of the country's current production is Kaduai, while production in other Central American countries is negligible. Kaduai's short plant shape, high planting density and high harvest efficiency partly led to full sunlight planting in the 1970s and 1980s.
Knowledge: coffee trees originated in Ethiopia, and a coffee variety called "Typica" is still widely planted by coffee farmers in various producing areas today.
