Kisii (Kisi)

Located in southwestern Kenya, not far from Lake Victoria, this area is a relatively small producing area, with most of the coffee coming from common cooperatives of small producers.

Bison Babe Cooperative (Bisembe)

The miniature coffee is grown by small farmers of the Bisembe Cooperative in Kisii County, a mountainous district in western Kenya, which is famous for its trade in bananas and soapstones. Kisii, known for its evergreen farms, is arguably one of the country's wettest countries, thanks to its location in the Lake Victoria basin and the lush Kisi Highlands. Because of its mild climate, fertile land and picturesque rolling hills, the basin is similar to the Blue Mountains of Jamaica.

Kisi's coffee production has been steadily declining as farmers focus on subsistence agriculture, replacing coffee trees with food crops. At the same time, cooperatives are struggling with huge loans and failed machinery. On the contrary, Beisenbeibi set an example. This sustainable society has educated more than 2000 members in best agricultural practices and expanded credit for agricultural inputs.

Flavor characteristics

This sweet and well-balanced coffee shows the characteristics of traditional Kenyan blackcurrants, juicy plums and rosettes.
