In the first match of Ethiopia, COB got a good score of more than 90 points with three beans in the first match.

Despite the economic, social and logistical disruptions in the past few months, the first-ever Ethiopian Cup of Excellence was the first winner. The 28 winning coffees, including the top three with more than 90 points, will be auctioned online on June 25.
Although all award-winning coffee growers can celebrate this achievement, through the cooperation of the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority, the Feed Future Ethiopian value chain campaign of the United States Agency for International Development and the Alliance of organizers of the European Commission of Education, hosting a green coffee competition is an impressive feat in itself. Coffee Excellence (ACE).
Shortly after the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa first submitted the Ethiopian CoE's record-breaking more than 1400 coffee samples, COVID-19-related restrictions began to be imposed around the world, limiting transport, transport routes and the possibility of public use to participate in competition judging activities. In response, ACE held its first CoE competition in the United States, organized the delivery of competition coffee to its office in Portland, Oregon, and revised the judging agreement to comply with safe social segregation.
But it all ended smoothly, and ACE now reports that more than 130 potential buyers have signed up for online auctions, which is expected to give coffee growers access to highly censored coffee prices that are much higher than those obtained through traditional market channels. .
The highest scoring batch in the competition came from the grower Nigussie Gemeda, who provided the natural process of sun drying Sidama, with a score of 91.3.
"it's nice to know that my coffee has done that," Gemeda said in an announcement released by ACE. "being number one is my goal. I am pleased to promote our quality coffee and benefit from the market opportunities that follow. "
Ethiopia's Sidama district is particularly represented in award-winning coffee, as are West Arsi, West Guji and Gedeo. Although two of the first three batches have been washed, they reflect an equally wide range of coffee varieties, both known and unknown, and the list is dominated by traditional, naturally dried coffee.
