Guatemala's coffee exports are expected to rise this year.

According to a report by Prensa Libre, Guatemala's second-largest newspaper, on September 24th, Guatemala's coffee exports have benefited from higher production and higher prices.

According to Anacaf é, as of September 8, exports for the 2020-21 coffee year were 3.39 million bags of 60 kg coffee, an increase of 11.51 per cent over the previous year.

Anacaf é found that one of the reasons for the increase in its coffee exports was the rise in the price of coffee on the international market. The export of Guatemalan coffee has earned more than US $817 million, compared with the harvest of US $625 million in the previous quarter, a difference of more than 25%, or about US $192 million.

The average export price of Anacaf é has increased compared with the previous one. The reason for the rise in the price of Guatemalan coffee exports is that Brazil, as a major exporter and producer of coffee, has suffered a severe drought and severe frost, which has affected the harvest, reduced production and soared prices.

Sergio Mazarigos (Sergio Mazariegos), coordinator of the differentiated Coffee Committee of the Association of Guatemalan exporters (Ageexport), explained that it was the rise in market prices that promoted export statistics.

Juan Luis Barrios, president of the Guatemalan Coffee Association (Anacaf é), said that even if Brazil's coffee production was hit hard, it would not be a substitute for Guatemalan coffee. However, the price of type C coffee futures on the New York Stock Exchange does not acknowledge this difference.

But with caution about coffee prices, Anacaf é analysis suggests that La Nina may still occur, meaning coffee crops will be damaged as in previous years. Barrios predicts that coffee prices may fall in 2023-24.

Barrios, chairman of Anacaf é, also pointed out that the demand for coffee in traditional markets such as the United States, Canada and Europe is further increasing, while the demand for Guatemalan coffee in emerging Asian markets is also growing. In addition Guatemala is seeking cooperation to promote Guatemalan coffee in new markets such as Turkey the United Arab Emirates and Australia.

New brand Logo-- Jaguar

The Guatemalan Coffee Association Anacaf é today launched a new brand, Logo-- Jaguar, for Guatemalan coffee. The jaguar Logo borrows from Barram Balam in Maya culture, symbolizing life and strength.

The Guatemalan coffee brand was founded 25 years ago, while the Guatemalan independent coffee growing area is sold in the form of sub-brands. Barrios, chairman of Anacaf é, said that the new national brand is partly designed to directly attract coffee consumers. Different fonts and graphics are designed to reflect 240 coffee-growing areas in Guatemala with their topography, microclimate and other unique growing conditions.

As early as July 27, 2021, Anacaf é also launched the coffee auction project "One of a Kind Guatemala", which aims to promote small batches of fine coffee traceable to Guatemala.
