In Central America, due to the suitable geographical environment and climate, it is very suitable for growing crops such as coffee. The first country to start growing coffee in Central America is Costa Rica, which is now the 14th largest coffee producer in the world.

Costa Rica Costa Rica

Costa Rica is located in the Central American isthmus, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the west, Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the southeast. Most of the territory is mountainous and plateau, with more than 200 volcanoes, the Cordillera Mountain system runs through the country.

Costa Rica has a tropical and subtropical climate, with annual rainy seasons (April to December) and dry seasons (from the end of December to April), mild and suitable temperatures, abundant Rain Water, and volcanic ash rich in minerals in the soil. it is very suitable for agricultural cultivation such as coffee.

Coffee producing area

Today, small Costa Rica has more than 400 million coffee trees, and there are seven coffee producing areas-the Western Valley (Valley Central Occidental), the Central Valley (Valley Central), the Tarazu (Tarrazu), the Sanshui River (Tres Rios), Orosi (Orosi), Brunca (Brunca) and Turrialba (Duli Alba), almost all of them in the central mountains.

Tarazu (Tarrazu): the Tarazu producing area is the largest and most well-known producing area in the country, located in the province of San Jose, but it was originally called Los Santos Los Santos.

However, because the Tarazu became famous earlier in the region, the Costa Rican government registered the coffee origin name "Caf é de Tarraz ú" with the European Union and the World intellectual property Organization (WIPO) in 2019, so people are used to dividing the coffee producing areas into major categories by "Tarrazu". In addition, the region is famous for the fact that most of the award-winning estates are from the Tarazu region on the Excellence Cup COE in Costa Rica.

The region is affected by warm and humid air currents in the Pacific, with annual rainfall of 2400 mm and an average temperature of 19 ℃. Coffee is grown at an altitude of 1500m to 2100m, making it the highest producing area in Costa Rica.

Wo Manor (Finca Voo)

Finca Voo is located on a hillside of 1960 meters above sea level in the Copey de Dota area of the Tarazu region, which allows crops to be exposed to Pacific sea breezes and sunny during the day, as well as to protect crops from Atlantic weather.

Finca Voo is currently owned by Caf é Sol í s & Cordero S.A, which was founded in 2018 by the Sol í s Cordero Solis Calder family to provide a fair and stable business for coffee producers in the region. Moreover, one of the owners of the company, Ivan Solis (Ivá n Sol í s), has more than 22 years of experience in coffee processing and commercialization.

The Waugh Manor is a newly acquired estate of the Solis family, and the left and right members of the family are actively involved in the estate, creating an environment more conducive to the production of quality coffee by growing avocados, animal husbandry and a variety of crops. As a result, the estate won the second place with a score of 91 in the Costa Rican COE competition in 2023, while in this year's COE competition, it also used the Kaduai variety to win the first place in the experimental treatment group (Experimental) with a score of 91.19.
