In the last century, Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee was sought after by the coffee market because of its low yield, high quality and excellent aroma, and was also known as the "coffee emperor". So Blue Mountain Coffee has always been linked to the word expensive. Why is Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee so expensive? In fact, Qianjie believes that this is related to Jamaica's local historical reasons, geography and the country's standards for high-quality coffee.

Jamaica is an island country, as early as the 18th century began to introduce coffee cultivation, coffee industry quickly developed, in its heyday, Jamaica has more than 600 coffee plantations, and excellent quality, deeply loved by global coffee consumers.

But the good times did not last long. The whole island of Jamaica was hit by hurricanes at the end of the 20th century, causing heavy losses, destroying both coffee and other crops, and the decline of the coffee industry. But at the same time, Japan had a developed economy during this period and liked Blue Mountain Coffee so much that several Japanese trading companies, including the well-known UCC Uashima Coffee Company, jointly provided loans to some coffee plantations in the Blue Mountains to help Jamaica tide over the difficulties.

So the Jamaican government signed a 30-year contract with Japan to supply 90% of the Blue Mountain Coffee quota to Japan and the rest to Europe and the United States and other countries. After the monopoly in Japan, through marketing and publicity, set off a "Blue Mountain craze", many countries around Japan also began to pursue Blue Mountain Coffee. With its own small production and successful marketing in Japan, prices have gone up as a result. However, the contract between Jamaica and Japan has expired, and Blue Mountain Coffee is starting to be sold to other countries, which is more common at home.

However, this is also due to the unique geographical environment of the country, which has many mountains in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica, located in the volcanic seismic belt around the Pacific Ocean, has fertile volcanic soil, and the climate here is humid, rainy and foggy all the year round. it is very suitable for growing crops such as coffee.

However, not all coffee trees planted in the whole Blue Mountain area can be called Blue Mountain Coffee. The JACRA of Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Administration has strict regulations, which are only grown in St.Andrew, St.Thomas, Portland and St.Mary. And growing in this area at an altitude of 915m-1700 m above sea level can only be named Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee (Jamaica Blue Mountain). Coffee produced in other areas can only be exported to Jamaican alpine coffee and Jamaican preferred coffee.

Due to the limited area, the yield is not high, and the altitude is high, planting management and picking is more difficult, the picking process is almost completed by local skilled female workers, choose the right mature coffee beans, in the subsequent process, there are special personnel responsible for quality supervision, the use of strict production processes to ensure the high quality of coffee, the corresponding price will be higher.

In addition, JACRA will also grade raw beans according to their specifications, defect rate, cup flavor test and other items. Blue Mountain Coffee is divided into four grades: No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and hand-selected PB. All exports need to pass the JACRA quality test, 300g raw bean samples will be taken, 96% of the coffee beans are required to be between 17 and 18 mesh, the defect rate is less than 2%, and the moisture content is about 10-12.5%. The cup test flavor meets the standard in order to become the top blue mountain coffee in Jamaica.

And in order to ensure the quality of coffee beans, Jamaica also insists on using traditional wooden barrel packaging for transportation of high-quality Blue Mountain coffee, with specifications of 70 kg, 30 kg and 15 kg. The rest are shipped in 60 kg gunny bags.

At present, Blue Mountain No. 1 coffee is used in Qianjie Street, which comes from Clifton Manor in St. Andrew's producing area. after brewing, it will have dark chocolate, nut and caramel flavor, creamy and silky taste, moderate mellow thickness, and sweet finish. The whole is uniform and balanced.
