Coffee Health Coffee is a good medicine to reduce the incidence of gout
Coffee is one of the most consumed drinks in the world. While enjoying the rich flavor of coffee, drinking coffee can also reduce the level of serum uric acid and reduce the occurrence of uricemia.
The American Journal of Rheumatism and Rheumatoid Arthritis reported the results of a study on the relationship between coffee and gout conducted in the United States. A total of 45869 men took part in the 12-year study. Participants took coffee, decaffeinated coffee, tea and caffeine, and none of the participants had a history of gout at the beginning of the study. During the 12-year study, a total of 757 participants had gout symptoms, and the risk of gout decreased with the increase of coffee consumption. If the risk of gout among those who did not drink coffee was 1, then the risk of gout among those who drank less than 1 cup, 1 to 3 cups, 4 to 5 cups and more than 6 cups of coffee per day was 0.97,0.92, 0.6 and 0.41 respectively. The risk of gout among those who drank 1 to 3 cups and more than 4 cups of decaffeinated coffee per day was 0.83 and 0.67 respectively. Drinking tea or other caffeinated drinks did not reduce the risk of gout.
Drinking coffee for a long time can reduce the incidence of gout. This effect has nothing to do with the drinkers' eating habits, and some factors that can affect gout, such as body mass index, age, high blood pressure, taking anti-uric acid drugs, drinking and chronic kidney disease, do not affect the effect of coffee. The results suggest that other caffeinated drinks do not have the effect of reducing gout, while coffee beverages without caffeine can obviously prevent gout, indicating that the active ingredient in coffee is not caffeine. Scientists believe that the mechanism of coffee preventing gout may be that some unknown substance in coffee lowers the level of uric acid in the blood and affects insulin tolerance, but there may be other mechanisms.
Gout is the most common metabolic disease in adult men, which has an increasing trend in recent years. As coffee drinks are widely consumed all over the world, drinking coffee can prevent gout and will be beneficial to public health. But pay attention to any food should not be excessive, things will be reversed at the extreme, coffee can be consumed in moderation.
