A matcha latte equals an order of French fries?
Japanese blogger Ryoko Iwata, 34, who lives in Seattle and loves Starbucks coffee, has attracted a lot of attention recently, the Daily Mail reported on Wednesday. Coffee (especially fancy coffee) in chain stores is generally high in calories, she said, and people are advised to choose black coffee without sugar, milk and other ingredients.
"A large cup of mocha contains as many calories as I have a meal."
Ryoko Iwata listed six types of coffee in his blog post and marked the calories in each coffee in the form of a schematic diagram. Take a matcha latte (a large cup, about 473 milliliters) as an example, which contains 350 calories, equivalent to a McDonald's French fries, while peppermint white chocolate mocha coffee has up to 520 calories, equivalent to 3.7 cans of cola.
These figures have stunned many coffee lovers.
One netizen was surprised. "I always thought matcha latte was a healthy drink, but I didn't expect it to be so high in calories," he said. " Another netizen said: "an oversized cup of mocha coffee contains as many calories as I have a meal!" Others praised: "it is very intuitive to compare drinks and food in the form of pictures!"
Where did the heat come from?
'Coffee itself is a healthy drink and contains almost no calories, 'Mr. Iwata said. But fancy coffee often adds ingredients such as sugar, milk and chocolate, which increases the calories in coffee drinks. She advises people to "lose weight" when drinking coffee, such as black coffee without any ingredients.
How many calories does fancy coffee contain? The reporter found that taking a large cup of vanilla star ice coffee (made from coffee, milk, sugar, ice, etc.) as an example, it contains about 300 calories, including 3 grams (29 calories) of fat, 66 grams (264 calories) of carbohydrates and 3 grams (12 calories) of protein. If you add whipped cream to your coffee, it has a total of 430 calories.
Eating too many calories can lead to obesity, hyperlipidemia and other diseases. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization recommends that women eat less than 2000 calories a day, compared with 2500 calories for men. A cup of high-calorie coffee can give women 1/4 of the calories they need in a day.
