Coffee Healthy Living Caffeine has a greater positive effect on women than on men
In order to cope with the stress at work, many people are used to getting up early and having a cup of coffee to refresh their minds. But a new study published in the American Journal of Applied Social Psychology shows that caffeine has a more positive effect on women than men. The study found that women who drank caffeinated coffee performed better than men in stressful situations.
In order to explore whether increased caffeine intake increases stress and interferes with teamwork, the team asked 64 male and female participants with an average age of 22 to complete tests such as puzzle-solving ability, collaborative memory and same-sex pairing ability after drinking caffeinated and non-caffeinated coffee, said Dr Lindsay S. Clare of the University of Bristol, UK. Participants in the caffeine group consumed caffeine equivalent to three cups of standard coffee.
The study found that men's memory performance under stress was generally lower than that of women after drinking caffeine, and that women were 100 seconds faster than men in solving puzzles. The researchers analyzed that when exposed to stress, men were more aggressive in the team, and women were more likely to cooperate with each other.
