Wang Sen opened his first coffee shop in Beijing in 2007, and now there are 17 stores in Wuhan. Wang Sen himself became a best-selling author by virtue of his two books "just want to Open a small Cafe" and "because of you".

But his entrepreneurial road did not stop. In 2012, he founded the jagged Coffee Dream training School, which was officially certified by the American Fine Coffee Association in 2013.

Sell the company to make coffee

With a lean body and an iconic bald head, Wang Sen's first impression to the reporter was that he was a little "angry". Many people think that it was wayward for him to sell his well-run company when he was nearly forty. This does not seem to be the case.

Wang Sen's mother died in 2007, when he ran a good company, but he was exhausted by the complex relationships in the business world, and his little dream began to stir in his heart when he was young. Since he started drinking coffee at the age of 19, he has always wanted to own a cafe of his own. Coupled with a long-time follower of the late writer Wang Xiaobo, Wang Sen soon bought a cafe in Beijing and named it staggered Coffee. "stagger" is taken from Russell's famous saying, which was quoted in Wang Xiaobo's book "the pleasure of thinking"-dimorphism is the source of happiness.

In retrospect, Wang Sen said that the company really didn't want to do it. "I listed a lot of options for myself and chose them by elimination, and in the end, I had to open a small cafe. It doesn't cost much, and it gives me the freedom I've always wanted.

The monthly rent for a single store is no more than 4000 yuan.

Young people who are infatuated with jagged coffee can give many reasons: the coffee itself tastes good, the shop is decorated warmly, it has literary temperament, and you can get half a day's peace here.

In Wang Sen's words, everything is simple and popular: the reason why he can survive and grow in the fierce competition is that each of his stores adhere to one principle-small.

Wang Sen said that the upper limit of his cost is that the monthly rent should not exceed 4000 yuan, and the investment of the whole cafe should not exceed 150000 yuan. "cost control is a prerequisite for smooth progress." Therefore, the area of each store will not exceed 40 square meters.

Although staggered coffee is almost a popular restaurant in Wuhan, Wang Sen is more concerned about the quality of coffee and the quality of the store. He has always adhered to his bottom line-one does not sell staple food, and the other does not open a chain store.

He even thinks that all cafes that sell staple food are "fake cafes" because they have very different requirements for core technology and talent, and he doesn't believe that a person can be both a good barista and a good cook. Just like whenever someone encourages him to recruit a franchisee to open a chain store, he doesn't think he can guarantee to export skilled technology to each store after owning hundreds of franchisees.

There are a large number of students in training schools.

In early 2012, the staggered Coffee Dream School founded by Wang Sen began recruiting students, attracting young people from all over the country just by promoting it on Douban and Weibo. Each training course lasts 20 days, recruits 30 students, and the tuition fee is about 10,000 yuan. the course is mainly about coffee making and dessert baking, as well as "how to open a cafe" delivered by Wang Sen.

The high training fees also made him face a lot of doubts, which he always laughed off: this is clearly determined by the market and the relationship between supply and demand.

Wang Sen has always believed that making money from coffee does not conflict with his fanatical love of coffee. He said bluntly: "Coffee lovers gather with me, and I satisfy their dreams for coffee or cafes. As for money, it is not a hurtful thing."
