A (Reporter Zou Xiejuan Li Qing) Women who usually like to drink coffee, do not drink too much during pregnancy, because it is very likely to lead to fetal growth retardation, followed by neonatal asphyxia. At the sixth Hubei Science and Technology Forum yesterday, five experts from the Pharmacology Department of the School of basic Medicine of Wuhan University said that they had proved this conclusion through animal experiments.

Intrauterine growth retardation means that the full-term birth weight is less than 2500g, which can not only affect fetal distress, neonatal asphyxia and perinatal death, but also continue to adulthood, characterized by physical and mental retardation.

Clinical and animal experiments have shown that caffeine has reproductive and embryonic toxicity, and caffeine or soft drink intake in childhood can significantly increase individual obesity.

Through fetal mouse experiments, five experts confirmed that fetal rats with intrauterine growth retardation caused by caffeine intake during pregnancy would have an increase in blood glucose, a decrease in blood lipids, a change in apolipoprotein and an increase in most amino acids.

In this regard, remind the majority of pregnant women, for the health of their baby, please quit coffee during pregnancy, and do not eat caffeinated food or medicine. At present, common items that contain caffeine are: coffee, tea bags, cola, 7-up, Sprite, chocolate, diet pills and painkillers.
