Studies show that mixed alcohol and caffeinated drinks can be intoxicating.

Many young Americans like to mix caffeinated drinks with alcohol. A US study shows that this practice is more likely to make people drunk and more likely to lead to dangerous behavior.
Researchers at the University of Florida reported in the latest issue of addictive behavior that they questioned more than 800 bar guests and measured their alcohol levels to understand the differences in drunkenness and drunken behavior after drinking different alcoholic drinks.
They found that those who mixed alcohol with caffeinated drinks were three times more likely to get drunk than those who drank only. In addition, dangerous behaviors such as drunken driving are more likely to occur in the latter group.
The researchers explained that caffeine in drinks can reduce the feeling of tiredness after drunkenness, make drinkers think they are sober, drink more and misjudge their ability to behave, leading to more dangerous behaviors.
