South Korean study found that caffeine can inhibit the growth of brain cancer
Researchers in South Korea and other countries reported in the latest issue of the US Journal of Cancer Research that they found through animal experiments that caffeine contained in coffee, green tea, etc. can effectively inhibit the growth of a brain tumor. This discovery will have important significance for the development of brain cancer treatment drugs.
Caffeine in coffee and green tea inhibits inositol triphosphate receptors, which are linked to glioblastoma, a common malignant tumor in the brain, South Korean media reported. Calcium plays an important role in the growth and spread of glioblastoma, and the inositol triphosphate receptor is one of the channels through which calcium is released, the researchers said. Animal experiments have shown that caffeine can selectively inhibit IP3R and reduce intracellular calcium concentration, thus inhibiting the growth and spread of glioblastoma.
