Last Updated: 2024/11/03, The Taipei Shutian Clinic recently treated a very rare case of chronic urticaria in a young man who had itched for half a year. Oddly enough, the symptoms lasted only one day after each attack. Only after checking his diet one by one, he found that it was caused by a cup of coffee every day.

Eating this is also itchy, eating that is also itchy, urticaria is not a serious disease, itching is fatal! In particular, the root cause of the disease is difficult to find. some people itch all over their bodies as soon as they touch cat hair, and some people bask in the sun with "red bean ice" swelling rash. Taipei Shutian Clinic recently treated a very rare case. A young man had chronic urticaria for half a year. Oddly enough, each attack lasted only for one day. I checked my diet one by one and found that it was caused by a cup of coffee every day.

Over the past six months, the 35-year-old office worker has been scratching hard when it comes to work. His body is covered with a piece of red and swollen rubella that looks like a mosquito bite. He has seen a doctor and taken medicine, but his symptoms can never be broken. He occurs on time every day and disappears within 24 hours. He is more punctual than clocking in to and from work, and he is unable to concentrate on his work.

Under the suggestion of Zheng Huiwen, director of dermatology at the Shutian Clinic, by recording "allergy logs" every day and checking them one by one, he found out the "murderer" who might induce allergies. He was surprised to find that he, who must wake up with a cup of coffee every day, was allergic to caffeine. As soon as he quit coffee, his allergies seldom occurred.

Zheng Huiwen said that urticaria is often referred to as "rubella block." urticaria is a common form of allergic dermatitis, which can be caused by a variety of causes, including food eaten, inhaled animal hair shavings, skin contact perfume and cosmetics, and even exercise, sunlight, and so on, may cause rapid expansion of small blood vessels in the skin, while swelling will form on the surface of the skin, and will occur repeatedly.

Generally speaking, the symptoms of acute urticaria will disappear within 6 weeks, and the symptoms of chronic urticaria will last for more than 6 weeks. Chronic urticaria is common in China due to allergy to large molecular proteins such as dairy products, eggs and shrimp, but cases of allergy to caffeine have been quite rare in the past.

In terms of treatment, Zheng Huiwen said that different drugs will be given depending on the causes, mainly oral antihistamines and topical ointments, but the radical cure is still to find suspicious allergic factors. otherwise, there are about two-thirds of the patients in the clinic, and they will have repeated attacks for 10 or 20 years.

If there is a suspected attack of urticaria, doctors suggest that you can find out the possible allergic factors through the allergy log, reduce the chance of attack in the future, and do not over-scratch during the attack. You can divert attention by flushing cold water, slapping or applying peppermint cool ointment to avoid infection caused by scratching and breaking the skin.
