Last Updated: 2024/09/17, Chinese people have the habit of drinking tea, while Europeans and Americans can't do without coffee. In the second half of this year, the International Space Station, which has been in orbit for more than a decade, will usher in its first coffee machine.

The coffee machine, known as Isspresso, which means "space station coffee machine," was made by Italian coffee maker Lavazza in conjunction with the Italian Space Agency and a space company and is scheduled to fly to the space station in November with Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforti. Cristoforti will not only be the first Italian woman to go into space, but probably the first astronaut in history to drink real Italian coffee in space.

Of course, the coffee machine working under microgravity conditions has some special features, such as in order to smooth water, coffee machine needs to work under high pressure conditions, some of its internal plastic pipes need to be replaced by a steel pipe, in addition to the key equipment and backup, so the whole machine is very complex, weighing about 20 kg.
