Coffee, as a traditional western drink, has a long history and cultural heritage. The world consumes at least 400 billion cups of coffee a year, and current global coffee consumption is about 10 million tons a year. Coffee is the world's top two drinks and the world's second most traded commodity after oil.

China's coffee industry is introduced and developed with the development of reform and opening up. Since the middle and late 1990s, due to China's strong economic power, people's ability to accept new things and the continuous deepening of exchanges with western countries, the coffee industry has developed rapidly and vigorously. Many chain coffee bars have entered China's major cities and have become an indispensable part of people's lives. Coffee culture has become more and more concentrated.

Coffee development in China is less than 25 years old and is still at a relatively early stage. According to statistics, the current domestic coffee consumption per capita is only 0.01 kg, but the coffee market is growing at a rate of 30% per year, far higher than the world coffee consumption growth rate of 1.5% per year, coffee has a broad market, coffee industry development potential is huge.

At present, China's coffee planting area is about 2000 hectares, with an annual output of more than 20,000 tons. With the acceleration of China's internationalization process, coffee, as an indispensable international fashion drink, has shown an upward trend of 20% in China's annual consumption; China's household coffee consumption has increased at an annual rate of 40%, while annual retail coffee sales have increased by more than 25%, and continue to maintain a strong growth momentum. If every Chinese drinks half a cup of coffee a day, then the Chinese will control the price of coffee in the world.

It is reported that China will increase investment in the future to further expand coffee cultivation in order to double the total coffee production and bring the coffee cultivation area in China to 16,000 hectares. Pablo Dubois, head of operations at Coffee International, said: "China will become the world's largest coffee consumer market."

Due to the further prosperity of the coffee market, the demand for coffee professionals in China will be very large, so the future development space of this new profession of barista is huge.
