Most coffee drinkers have never seen a coffee tree up close, let alone watched fresh berries turn into brewed coffee. But a new project in southern Yunnan is about to change that—by letting guests see the full transformation from fruit to cup in just three hours.

Within three hours, visitors to the future Mandarin Cliff Coffee Estate in Ning’er will see freshly picked coffee berries turned into a hot cup of coffee. This hands-on experience, made possible through a partnership with 300 local farming households, will include the entire harvest-to-brew journey, even in off-season months thanks to cold storage.

What’s Planned at the Mandarin Cliff Coffee Estate

The Mandarin Cliff Coffee Estate is under construction on the outskirts of Ning’er Hani and Yi Autonomous County, just five kilometers along the Mosi Second-Class Highway. Managed by Pu’er Manya Coffee Industry Co., Ltd., the site is already taking shape. General Manager Li Bin says the estate aims to build a local Yunnan coffee brand known for pure, rich flavors—and to add value by extending the coffee production chain beyond just beans.

The estate will eventually offer an all-in-one destination with research, production, sales, tourism, events, and lodging. “Many city dwellers drink coffee daily but have never seen a coffee tree or processed beans,” said Li. “Here, they’ll walk through the full coffee experience.”

A Farming Cooperative with 300 Households

The project goes beyond coffee. Li Bin has partnered with three local village groups and about 300 farming households to develop a larger agri-tourism destination called the Mandarin Cliff Golden Phoenix Farm. The cooperative leases 2,000 acres and includes 1,000 acres contributed by the 300 households who invested land. Together, the land spans over 3,000 acres.

The expanded farm will include fruit orchards, vegetable patches, herbal gardens, a kid’s zone, a Yi cultural park, a supermarket, restaurants, outdoor barbecues, and snack streets. Visitors will enjoy more than just coffee—they’ll experience farm life, local culture, and outdoor fun in one visit.

When and How the Coffee Experience Works

The full coffee berry-to-brew experience will take place entirely on-site and take roughly three hours.
