Cafe 27 is a coffee shop focusing on the concept of natural and organic, next to Lido Garden in Beijing.

In this year's Perspective, Cafe 27 won the Outstanding Award for Green Interior Design (or Sustainable Project) in the annual Asian Architecture Trophy Award Award, which was designed by Shanghai design studio Four O Nine, founded in 2011 by two Canadians, Andrei Zerebecky and Lukasz Kos.

This used to be a glass greenhouse, and when it was converted into a coffee shop, Four O Nine took into account the haze days in Beijing and the natural organic concept touted by Cafe 27. Since it was impossible to eliminate haze, he wanted to use natural materials to make it feel green and healthy.

"the inspiration for the design comes from the cafe's organic choice of ingredients," said architect Lukasz Kos. "We want to stimulate people's desire for healthy food or green buildings. The first thing to do is to let diners have rich perception of the surrounding environment in the space. "

Nowadays, in many cities with serious air pollution, architects like to design spatial structures covered by plants to make them play the function of vegetation to absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. Like the 36-story building recently designed by architect Stefano Boeri in Lobsang, Switzerland, it uses the concept of "vertical forest".

In Cafe 27, plants are presented in the form of pots. The design team hung potted plants on the inside and outside walls of the cafe, dividing the whole space into two halves, with the upper part like a forest and the lower part like a dining space under the shade of trees.

In the floor part, the combination of terrazzo floor and white tile distinguishes the leisure area from the meal preparation area, while the transition from the leisure area of white tiles to the dining preparation area of ink floor is like the feeling from summer to winter.

For the sake of the renovation of the entire surrounding area, Four O Nine also made a terrace restaurant and its second floor bar for Cafe 27. "before, the glass house looked very tacky and was used for weddings," Lukasz Kos said. "We removed the pink appearance of the original building and replaced it with charcoal concrete and Douglas pine boards."

Night scene

The whole house also looks clean and thorough, which, as mentioned by Lukasz Kos above, is a space that inspires diners' perception of nature.
