Coffee beans are fragrant and pesticide-free in Chaoyang Community, Taiwan.
The SuAo Town Chaoyang Community in Yilan County is located in the Greater South Australia area. It used to be rich in cantaloupe, but people in the community thought that the cost of cantaloupe pesticides was high. In 1992, it changed to grow coffee, and accidentally found that the coffee beans planted in the shade of the original mixed forest had a better flavor. Now more than 1300 coffee trees have been planted in the community, and coffee drinks have become a local feature.
The coffee trees planted in Chaoyang Community are Arabica varieties, and their unique tastes vary with the planting environment. Chaoyang Community is located in the pollution-free soil of Da Nan O. After the coffee beans are slightly roasted, the aroma is rich and the taste is not as sour as in other areas. It is welcomed by many coffee lovers.
Wu Xiuzhu, a community commentator, said that Arabica varieties account for about 70% of the global coffee bean production. In 1992, the community bought coffee seedlings from other places. In the first year of trial planting, it was found that the yield and quality of coffee beans planted in a wide open space were inferior to those of coffee beans under the shade of trees. Later, all the saplings were planted under the forest.
"We promise not to spray! Wu Hsiu-chu stressed that the community insists on not using pesticides and cultivating clean and pollution-free soil in the Greater Nanao area, reducing pesticide costs and environmental impact, and giving coffee beans their own flavor.
Coffee is harvested from October to February every year. In previous years, the output of Chaoyang Community was nearly 1 metric ton. The community collected a small amount of roasting each time to ensure that each brewing was the best coffee.
