Research and development of Angolan coffee
Recently, the director of the institute, Jose, visited Bengora province to exchange experiences with colleagues to learn about the progress of the infrastructure rehabilitation project in the pilot area of the city of GANDA, where a lot of coffee will be grown. In addition, the collection of Arabica coffee varieties will be carried out immediately, and planting experiments will be carried out to understand the current situation of coffee cultivation in the province. The city of GANDA in Bengo province, with its fertile land and suitable climate, is one of the most suitable areas for growing coffee. The provinces of Bengo, Uige, Kwanza Norte and Kwanza Sul are also listed as areas that encourage coffee cultivation. In the city of GANDA, the institute also has another consortium, namely, farming, livestock and coffee cooperatives. The consortium also encourages the cultivation of coffee and other grains throughout the province to promote the sustainable development of the local economy. The agency hopes to work with banks to formulate policies for the establishment of funding mechanisms to promote agricultural production in the region.
Before 1973, Angola was the world's fourth largest coffee producer, with an annual output of more than 200000 tons. The main coffee producing areas in Angola are the provinces of Kwanza, Uige and Bengo in the south and north.
