Learning experience of what a good barista should have
Now please think back to how you just joined the profession. When I first started work, I was like a newborn, full of expectation and fear to the outside world. I still remember standing behind the chief barista in the coffee shop and watching him pass away the milk, make espresso, and hand each cup of coffee to the customer. His skilful technique is like magic in my eyes. I thought making coffee was easy to learn, but the moment I touched the coffee machine, I suddenly realized that things were not as easy as I thought. Today, I would like to share with you my experience in the past few years, hoping to help every new barista.
1. Please relax, everything will be all right.
It is common to see some new baristas become in a hurry because they forget the recipe for a certain kind of coffee or how to use a certain device. There are also some people who will give up when they see the rapid progress of others and think, "it's over. I'm so stupid. I'm behind." I want to say to these baristas: relax, relax. Once you have mastered all the knowledge and skills, you can make the perfect coffee like everyone else. Learning is a step-by-step process, and everything will come naturally.
two。 Learn from failure
Failures and mistakes are inevitable. You may write down the handle before the coffee extraction is finished, knocking over a milk jar full of scalding milk. Please don't panic, learn to learn from failures. Even the most successful baristas have made mistakes. Remember, failure is the mother of success. Only by reflecting in time and drawing lessons from failure can you become a good barista.
3. Be kind to colleagues
If your colleagues look at you with surprise or sharp eyes, nine times out of ten you are making a mistake. You will soon find that baristas are a special group. Every barista has been honed in many ways, and they have proved the value of their existence to their bosses and customers. As a newcomer who is eager to prove himself, if you react to the sharp eyes of your colleagues when you are in a hurry or bring the wrong coffee to your customers, no one will be willing to cooperate with you in the future. On the other hand, if you smile warmly and say hello to your colleagues when you commute to work every day, I believe it won't be long before you join the team and become a part of it.
4. The customer's blame is not directed at you personally.
Sometimes customers become very picky, even picking bones in some eggs. Some people will throw money in your face, others will hate being asked about the size of the cup, and others will roll their eyes when you repeat the menu for him. Remember, every barista has had the same experience, and the customer's blame is not personal. Unless you make the same mistake every time, most customers are amiable. Don't hold a grudge against those who blame or even scold you. Their rudeness can only show that their own quality is on the low side. For every customer, please smile and do what you have to do. Remember, not everyone is friendly and polite, even if he scolds you, what can he do to you?
5. It is not difficult to remember the order.
After weeks of training, you finally have a chance to walk up to the bar and make coffee for your customers. But suddenly one day, a customer asked you for 10 cups of coffee, each with different varieties and ingredients. What should you do? Maybe your first reaction is finished, how can I remember it all! Relax, rookie, when your colleague will stand up for you and think about it. You have made every cup of coffee he said. What is there to panic about? All you have to do is make each cup of coffee step by step.
6. Give full play to subjective initiative
Finally, I think the most useful piece of advice! The job of a barista is cool, but also tiring. I once complained to my friends all day about how hard it was to be a barista. People tend to be angry and anxious when they are tired. But what you need to do is to be happy, calm and calm at all times, and don't let your work affect your mood. I will cheer myself up before I go to work every day and say to myself, "look!" What a beautiful day it is today. I must be lucky today! If someone bothers me, I will give him a big smile and scold him a hundred times in my heart! I will keep up with the rhythm of the music in the coffee shop and take every cup of coffee to the extreme! The day goes by quickly, and as long as you work hard, you will certainly be rewarded! " Please don't laugh, it really works. To give full play to their subjective initiative, always maintain a positive attitude, tell themselves that they will be able to achieve success!
7. Learn to ask questions
Finally, you must learn to ask questions! No matter what the problem is! If you don't know, or if you're not sure, be sure to check with your colleagues. Only if we are not ashamed to ask questions, can we make progress!
Let's cheer for every barista, it is because of them that we can drink mellow coffee every day! You are our real hero!
