Ghana will produce 1,260 metric tons of coffee in 2010-11, surpassing Liberia and the Central African Republic and making it the third-lowest producer of coffee beans in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Liberia and the Central African Republic each produce 600 tons of coffee beans per year.
Ethiopia, Africa's largest coffee grower, is expected to produce 252,000 tonnes of beans in 2010-11. As the world's largest cocoa grower, Cote d'Ivoire produced about 132,000 tons of coffee beans in 2010-11. According to the International Coffee Organization, Ghana is mainly suitable for growing lower-quality coffee beans used to produce instant coffee.
