This is one of the few existing villas in Guangzhou. After the Revolution of 1911, a large number of overseas Chinese returned home. The Guangdong provincial government designated this area for overseas Chinese to build their own housing. Buildings with a combination of Chinese and Western have sprung up and become one of the characteristics of Dongshan. The "Guyuan Garden", one of the five major overseas Chinese gardens in Xinhepu, was built in 1922. The first and second floors are imitation Greek style. There is a prominent arch building above the building, and the slightly damaged word "1922" on the gatehouse highlights its history.

In Guangzhou, a city with a history of more than two thousand years, any cafe or small shop may be a historical building. In Xinhepu today, apart from the sense of history, the refurbished or literary or petty bourgeois shops may be another kind of attraction.
